A Park Authority is directly accountable to Scottish Ministers and through them to the Scottish Parliament. Like all Government bodies, a Park Authority is reviewed every five years. The legislation also allows for Scottish Ministers to modify or revoke the designation order for a National Park.
Each National Park Authority is required to develop a National Park Plan. This Plan needs to go through an extensive process of public consultation before it is finalised and this also offers a basis for local accountability.
